Milestone Growth Capital Institute
"Scroobious Spaces became part of how we run our program. We incorporated it into cohort assignments, which gave our members a way to put what they were learning into practice. It's also made it much easier for people in the program to get to know one another."

The program

Milestone Growth Capital Institute trains new angel investors. Its yearly cohort, run with the Center for Black Entrepreneurship and drawn from Morehouse and Spelman alumni, works from investment thesis to due diligence to a real deal memo. Dawn calls it the team's "heart work."

What they needed

Plenty of new angels are already qualified, but as Dawn puts it, they "walk into the rooms" and "get quiet." Some cohort members knew each other, but they had never had one place to connect. Milestone runs the program once a year alongside a fund and a business, so the Space had to help without adding work for a small team.

How they use their Space

Members share their investment thesis with classmates in the Space, then step out into the wider Scroobious network to find founders for their deal memos. Next, Milestone is bringing alumni from earlier cohorts into the Space so new angels can learn from people a step ahead of them.

"I'm not interested in adding another silo to a city that already has too many. The long-term vision for Spaces is to help people and communities across the city find each other and work together online. That's also how we're thinking about our physical space at Akamai: making those connections easier to build in person."

"Founders build better when they're not building alone. The Visionaries network is one of the most valuable things we offer, and Scroobious gives it a home that's ours, where founders can find each other, share what's working, and stay close long after the program ends. Having the wider network there when they want it is a bonus."

"Getting to know and develop a relationship with the founder is a big missing piece in the landscape so far."

"The Scroobious platform is brilliant! I actually feel more comfortable sending a video link rather than a downloadable deck."

"Early-stage founders trying to build a pitch deck: you need to subscribe to Scroobious. It's worth every single sweat."
