About Scroobious

Hello there potential founding team member and Scroobious Community Lead! Before we get into the job, let me tell you about our company and its origin story. I’m Allison Byers, Founder & CEO. I spent about five years building and leading a medical device startup and raised nearly $10M going from a friends and family round through an A1. During that time I was floored by how inefficient and stressful the process of fundraising was, and caught off guard by the challenges I faced as a woman despite a career full of being the only woman in the room. When I did some research and found out that women and minorities receive only 2% or less (yes, that’s real!) of VC funding, I felt compelled to help in some way.

I founded Scroobious in January 2020 to increase diversity in the startup ecosystem by providing the education, tools, and community founders need to create investor-ready pitch material and a platform to help investors easily find those founders.

The Role

We launched our Pitch it Plan™ (PiP) MVP this past February, and in the months since then our community has grown to over 170 diverse entrepreneurs thanks to word of mouth from our amazing founder group and inbound interest.

We’re heading into an exciting stage of growth and are looking for an enthusiastic and strategic teammate who is plugged into the startup ecosystem and loves galvanizing a community around a mission. You’ll be reporting directly to me, with ongoing support and mentorship from our incredible advisors and investors. This is an amazing opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a mission-based startup, work closely with business and technical wizards who are also good human beings, and cultivate strong relationships in the ecosystem at large.

You’ll be focused on key areas critical for company success including:

  • Demand generation and business development.
  • Communications including strategic messaging, social media, digital marketing, public relations, and securing earned media.
  • Event planning and management with a focus on collaborative learning environments and getting capital to overlooked founders.
  • Community building including within our customer base and with the ecosystem at large. This will include talking to our founder and our investor customers to understand their businesses, needs, and exploring how we can expand our offerings to better support them and add greater value.

What You Bring

I’m not going to list a bunch of requirements, and while you don’t need to have decades of experience or a fancy degree, you do need to be able to hit the ground running and get up to speed quickly. I’m looking for someone who has read this entire description, is ambitious, wants to make a real difference in the world, has varied experience in areas like social media or product management, is passionate about increasing diversity in the startup ecosystem, enjoys working independently, is excited to network, likes to wear many different hats and problem solve, is a person others turn to frequently, likes sarcasm, and laughs a lot.
